Medication Management

AVYCENNA's medication module helps you stay on top of what you're taking, when you're taking it, and how consistently. Adherence data over time is genuinely useful information — for you, and optionally for your doctor.

Adding a Medication

Tap + Add Medication in the Medications tab. You'll fill in:

FieldRequiredDescription
NameYesMedication name (e.g., "Metformin 500mg")
DosageYesThe dose per administration (e.g., "500mg", "10 units")
FrequencyYesHow often: once daily, twice daily, weekly, as needed
Start dateYesWhen you began this medication
End dateNoIf it's a short course (e.g., antibiotics), set an end date
NotesNoPrescribing doctor, purpose, special instructions

Include the dose in the medication name (e.g., "Lisinopril 10mg") if you track the same medication at different doses over time. This makes your history much easier to read.

Logging Doses

Each day, the app shows you a list of your active medications and prompts you to log whether you took each dose. For twice-daily medications, there are two log entries.

For each dose, you mark:

  • Taken — you took it at approximately the right time
  • Skipped — intentionally not taken (with optional reason)
  • Missed — you forgot

"As needed" medications don't generate daily prompts. Instead, you log a dose manually whenever you take one.

Adherence Tracking

AVYCENNA calculates your adherence percentage for each medication over a rolling period:

Adherence % = (doses taken / doses scheduled) × 100

This is shown per medication and as an overall average. You can view:

  • 7-day adherence — recent performance
  • 30-day adherence — monthly trend
  • All-time adherence — since you started tracking

Reading Your Adherence

AdherenceInterpretation
90–100%Excellent — highly consistent
75–89%Good — occasional misses
50–74%Fair — worth reviewing with your doctor
Below 50%Low — this medication may not be providing full benefit

Low adherence data is informational only. If you're struggling to take a medication consistently, discuss it with your doctor — there may be a dosing schedule or alternative that works better for you.

Sharing with Your Doctor

Medication data is private by default. To give your doctor access, grant them medications permission via Privacy & Grants.

When your doctor has medication access, they see:

  • Your active and past medications with dosages
  • Your adherence logs by date
  • Your adherence percentages

They cannot modify your medication list or log doses on your behalf.

Your Data Is Yours

Everything you enter stays in your account. You can:

  • Export your full medication history at any time from Settings → Export Data
  • Delete individual medications (and their dose logs) at any time
  • Delete your entire account, which removes all medication data permanently

Medication data is never sold, shared with pharmaceutical companies, or used for advertising.
